Vaibhav Sooryavanshi notched up just his second First-Class half-century during the second day of the Duleep Trophy semifinal between East Zone and Central Zone on Monday.

The 15-year-old reached the 50-run mark in just 42 deliveries, while also helping take the opening-wicket partnership with Abhimanyu Easwaran to 100 runs.

At 15 years and 157 days, Sooryavanshi becomes the youngest player to score a fifty in the Duleep Trophy. He breaks the record held by Laxman Singh, who scored a fifty in 1969 at the age of 16 years and 23 days.

His previous fifty came during the last Ranji Trophy season against Meghalaya, which he completed in just 33 balls.

Sooryavanshi had missed out in the first-round match against North East Zone as he was dismissed for just eight runs in the only innings East Zone batted.
