VVS Laxman, Director of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy, will take charge of the Indian men’s team at the upcoming Asian Games to be held in Aichi-Nagoya Japan later this month.
Laxman will be joined by Sunil Joshi, Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Subhadeep Ghosh, according to the list of coaches published by the Sports Ministry.
The former Team India batter had also helmed the side during the 2023 edition of the event in Hangzhou, China, where the team won gold.
Gautam Gambhir, the regular head coach, will be travelling with the senior team during the home ODI series against West Indies.
The first ODI against the Windies will begin on September 27. The cricket discipline at the Asian Games will begin on September 24, with India playing its first match four days later.
Amol Muzumdar will continue to lead the women’s side, which also bagged gold in the previous edition under Kanitkar. He will be joined by bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi and fielding coach Munish Bali.
The Indian women will begin its campaign at the quarterfinal stage against Japan, while the men will face the second-placed team from Group A, which includes Afghanistan, Japan, and Nepal.
