Mohammed Kounain Quraishi on Thursday scored a century on day five of the Duleep Trophy final for East Zone against South Zone in Chennai.
The all-rounder from Jharkhand has been the find of the tournament. He came in as an injury replacement for Shahbaz Ahmed in the semifinals and made a telling impact on debut.
The 23-year-old from Dhanbad is yet to play First-Class cricket for Jharkhand and made his List A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last season.
In four List A appearances, Quraishi has 43 runs and three wickets.
He also impressed the Jharkhand Premier League earlier this year. He played for Jamshedpur Steelers and scored 203 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 170 and an average of 203. With his off-spin, he picked six wickets in seven innings but conceded at nearly 11 runs per over.
But his century in the second innings off 179 balls and 40 off 91 in the first essay, along with two for 99 from nearly 40 overs suggest that Quraishi has immense potential for the longer formats.
In the semifinal against defending champion Central Zone, he had picked three wickets across the two innings.
