India\u2019s One-Day International captain Shubman Gill said winning next \u200byear\u2019s World Cup is the ultimate goal for \u200chis team, especially after the side fell \u200bat the final hurdle in the \u20602023 edition on home soil.<\/p>\n

India\u2019s unbeaten campaign in that home World Cup ended in defeat by \u200cAustralia in the final in Ahmedabad.<\/p>\n

India has since won back-to-back T20 \u200cWorld Cups, but Gill has set \u200chis \u2060sights on 50-over cricket\u2019s biggest prize \u2060when the tournament takes place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in October-November next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe felt like \u200bwe were so close \u200clast time,\u201d Gill said during the Indian cricket board\u2019s awards ceremony on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be able to get another crack \u200cat it in South Africa, it\u2019s \u200bgoing to be a great opportunity for us.<\/p>\n

\u201cWinning a World Cup in \u2060any format for the country is the ultimate goal. So obviously, that is something \u200cthat sometimes runs in my mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

India\u2019s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav said their 20-over World Cup triumph in 2024 had sparked a run of success for the country\u2019s cricketers, with the men winning the Champions \u200cTrophy and the women lifting a first ODI \u200bWorld Cup title last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat one step was important; that taste was \u2060important for everyone to understand what it takes \u2060to win an ICC trophy,\u201d Suryakumar said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, there is no looking back. \u200cIf this wonderful thing has started, let\u2019s try and collect as many (trophies) as \u200bpossible.\u201d<\/p>\n
