The World Cricketers\u2019 Association (WCA) rankings \u200creleased on Thursday put the IPL (62.6) third of 10 leagues, behind England\u2019s The \u200cHundred (75.2) and South Africa\u2019s SA20 (68).<\/p>\n
The world\u2019s \u200crichest \u206020-over tournament received maximum points for average \u2060payment and payment reliability but lagged in areas such as \u201cright to organise\u201d and \u201cdispute resolutions\u201d.<\/p>\n
Devajit Saikia, secretary of the Indian \u200bcricket board which \u200cruns the IPL, was not immediately available for comment.<\/p>\n
WCA Chief Executive Tom Moffat said in a statement on Thursday that while cricket \u200chad benefited from the increasing numbers of \u200bdomestic competitions in recent years, it was important to ensure players were taken \u2060care of.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe growth of the domestic leagues landscape has been overwhelmingly positive for our sport, but \u200cit has the potential to be even better,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want all sanctioned leagues to be successful, and to provide fair protections and standards for people within them.\u201d<\/p>\n
The IPL came in for criticism in January when \u200cBangladesh player Mustafizur Rahman was dropped by Kolkata Knight Riders \u200bamid tensions between the South Asian neighbours.<\/p>\n
The Indian board\u2019s policy of banning contracted \u2060male players from appearing in other franchise leagues \u2060around the world has also come in for criticism.<\/p>\n
The 19th edition of the IPL \u200cgets underway on March 28 with defending champion Royal Challengers Bengaluru hosting 2016 winner Sunrisers Hyderabad.<\/p>\n
