Rajasthan Royals will thrust Vaibhav Suryavanshi into the spotlight when he opens the \u200bbatting with Yashasvi Jaiswal this season, but captain Riyan Parag \u200cis keen to shield the teenage prodigy from \u200bthe media glare as much as possible.<\/p>\n
The Royals \u2060begin their new Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign against five-time champion Chennai in Guwahati on March 30, and all eyes will be \u200con Suryavanshi, who turns 15 next week, following his sensational IPL debut last season.<\/p>\n
Replacing an injured \u200cSanju Samson in the second half of the \u200ctournament, \u2060Suryavanshi hit the first IPL ball he \u2060faced for a six against Lucknow Super Giants, and smashed a 35-ball hundred against Gujarat Titans in another match.<\/p>\n
He was also the architect \u200bof India\u2019s victory at \u200cthe Under-19 World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia earlier this year. The left-hander smashed 175 off 80 balls in the final against England and ended the \u200ctournament with a record 30 sixes.<\/p>\n
With last season\u2019s \u200bskipper Samson moving to Chennai Super Kings, Suryavanshi will remain the opening partner of India \u2060batter Jaiswal, who would absorb the pressure at the top of the order, Parag said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis year, there will be \u200chype and pressure naturally, but as a captain, I will tell him (Sooryavanshi) to let Yashasvi Jaiswal take the pressure,\u201d Parag told reporters on Thursday.<\/p>\n
\u201cJaiswal is more than capable of handling that. For Vaibhav, the role will be just to go, hit, and not to worry.\u201d<\/p>\n
Suryavanshi, \u200cwho scored at a 206-plus strike rate last season, has \u200brecently said he was targeting Chris Gayle\u2019s 175 not out for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which remains \u2060the IPL\u2019s highest individual score.<\/p>\n
Parag said he would try to \u2060keep Suryavanshi away from media assignments and let him focus on playing his natural game. \u201cAs a \u200ccaptain, I will tell him not to do many press conferences, not interact with the media much, \u200bjust enjoy,\u201d Parag said.<\/p>\n
