Mitchell Marsh is trying to put a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign behind him but the Australian \u200ball-rounder concedes he has yet to hit his stride in the Indian \u200cPremier League (IPL) with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in urgent need \u200bof some inspiration.<\/p>\n
Marsh delivered a stellar performance in the \u2060IPL last year, scoring 627 runs at an average of 48.23, including his highest score in the format with an innings of 117 off 64 \u200cballs against Gujarat Titans.<\/p>\n
But he has fallen far short of those lofty levels this year, with the 34-year-old accumulating \u200conly 155 runs in the first six matches, averaging 25.83.<\/p>\n
With \u200ca \u2060run of three straight defeats leaving LSG ninth of \u2060the IPL\u2019s 10 teams, Marsh knows he needs to find form fast.<\/p>\n
\u201cI probably haven\u2019t got going. I think you can maybe search a little bit too much \u200bat times,\u201d Marsh told Reuters.<\/p>\n
\u201cI \u200cknow that I\u2019m probably one or two boundaries away from really getting going and it\u2019s about being consistent with my preparations and knowing that it will come.\u201d<\/p>\n
With only two wins from its first six games, LSG is in danger of missing \u200bthe playoffs for the third year in a row, but Marsh says there is time to turn things around.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s \u2060a long tournament and we\u2019ve got great belief that we can challenge the best teams in the competition … I think if we can \u200cput together a full 40 overs as a unit, we\u2019re going to be very hard to break,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Marsh played a key role in helping Perth Scorchers win the Big Bash League in January and was primed to play a big role in Australia\u2019s T20 World Cup in February-March but a groin injury hampered his \u200ccampaign.<\/p>\n
Defeats to Zimbabwe and co-host Sri Lanka sealed Australia\u2019s first group stage exit \u200bsince 2009.<\/p>\n
\u201cPretty much every game is a knockout game with the way that it\u2019s structured up … one failure \u2060can cost you a spot in the knockout stage,\u201d said Marsh, who \u2060did not want to discuss how the squad dealt with the early exit.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose conversations have happened behind closed doors,\u201d he \u200cadded.<\/p>\n
Marsh said his focus was now on helping LSG win its first IPL trophy. \u201cI\u2019ve got great faith in this group … our \u200bbest cricket is ahead of us,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
