Ola Electric Ltd is in discussions with several global and domestic automakers to supply lithium-ion cells and battery packs. The company is planning to supply this from its Gigafactory located in Krishnagiri. This step is important towards establishing Ola as a battery supplier by moving beyond the captive demand of its electric scooters.<\/p>\n
The Bengaluru-based company is currently running India’s only active Gigafactory, with an installed capacity of 6 GWh. Ola, through its wholly owned subsidiary Ola Cell Technologies, has commercially deployed the 4680-format ‘Bharat Cell’ on a large scale. According to reports, these discussions are taking place at the time of expansion of Ola’s cell manufacturing operations. The company’s installed capacity is expected to increase to 12 GWh by July 2027 and 20 GWh by the end of FY28. Of the proposed 20 GWh capacity, about one-third (about 6.5 GWh) is earmarked for third-party sales, i.e. supplies to automotive OEMs. Potential customers are currently evaluating Ola’s manufacturing facility, which could lead to long-term commercial agreements.<\/p>\n
