The 15-year-old Sooryavanshi starred in India\u2019s ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 triumph earlier this year and has taken the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by storm, scoring 440 runs in 11 matches at a stunning strike rate of 236.55 for Rajasthan Royals.<\/p>\n
He smashed a 36-ball century against Sunrisers Hyderabad last month and has also struck two fifties in the ongoing edition of the IPL. His 40 sixes in this tournament are also the most by any batter this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe door would be three-fourths open. I can tell you that, for sure, because if you want to encourage or get someone young and into the setup as quickly as possible, then it\u2019s the T20 format of the game, and he is not short by any margin,\u201d Shastri said on the latest episode of\u00a0 The ICC Review<\/i>.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThis guy can walk into a lot of sides in world cricket at this current moment in time. Just when you look at the exuberance of youth and that youth shows on his face,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Shastri believes India\u2019s tour of Ireland later this year would be a golden opportunity for the selectors to blood Sooryavanshi into the national set-up.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of people will ask, is he 15, is he 16, is he 14? I don\u2019t care. I just see the way he is batting at the moment and the way he\u2019s taking on all comers twice his age or maybe two and a half times his age. It doesn\u2019t matter to him. So, I think he\u2019s very, very much in the reckoning. And when you have tours of Ireland and all this happening now, I would be looking into him straight away.\u201d<\/p>\n
The BCCI recently named Sooryavanshi in the India A squad for the tri-series in Sri Lanka, which also involves Afghanistan A. Impressive performances on that tour could push the left-hander closer to a maiden India call-up.<\/p>\n
