The Netherlands women\u2019s cricket team is set to make its long-awaited debut at the Women\u2019s T20 World Cup 2026, beginning its campaign against Bangladesh, a side it has encountered both in the global qualifiers and a tri-series involving Scotland in the lead-up to the tournament.<\/p>\n

Speaking ahead of the opener, captain Babette de Leede described the opportunity to compete on cricket\u2019s biggest stage as \u201ca dream\u201d for both herself and her teammates. The Dutch skipper also reflected on the week of promotional events leading up to the tournament, including the Captain\u2019s Carnival, where she had the chance to interact with some of the game\u2019s biggest names.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels like I\u2019m in a dream sometimes. I have to pinch myself and say, okay, this is real. I\u2019m really standing next to Harmanpreet (Kaur), for example. It\u2019s so cool to be here. And especially that Captain\u2019s Carnival was so cool, to meet some of my idols and people I\u2019ve been watching on TV. Now I\u2019m standing next to them and even getting the chance to pick their brains about a few things,\u201d de Leede said.<\/p>\n

Knowledge transfer was high on de Leede\u2019s priority list.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re all very kind to me as well. So yeah, it\u2019s a very special experience and yeah, it feels unreal sometimes. I think, yeah, also tomorrow is going to be incredible, especially since we were at the game yesterday. We watched England play Sri Lanka, and it\u2019s just because it\u2019s in England, like people love cricket. There was a good, good crowd. So yeah, it\u2019s just, it\u2019s an unreal experience, like really living, like living my dream.\u201d<\/p>\n

De Leede also shared a small bit of advice Harmanpreet passed on to her during the Captains\u2019 Press Conference in London last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore the press conference, I asked her, ‘Does it ever feel normal to you?\u2019 Because I was quite nervous. And she said, \u201cNo, I\u2019m always nervous. That\u2019s completely normal.\u201d She was very comforting and supportive. Also, this morning I spoke to Danni Wyatt-Hodge, who scored a ton yesterday. So we spoke a little bit about the pitch, and it\u2019s so cool to see these people at breakfast or in the lift. So yeah, it\u2019s such a cool experience for us.\u201d<\/p>\n
