Kauvery Hospital<\/a> has launched Tamil Nadu\u2019s first Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) programme featuring two advanced technologies\u2014Medtronic PulseSelect\u2122 at Alwarpet and Biosense Webster Varipulse\u2122 at Vadapalani, with the latter integrated with an advanced 3D cardiac mapping system.<\/p>\nThe launch marks the first time both PulseSelect\u2122 and Varipulse\u2122, along with a 3D mapping-integrated PFA platform, have been introduced in the state. The initiative strengthens Kauvery Hospitals\u2019 capabilities in cardiac electrophysiology and heart rhythm care.<\/p>\n
To support the programme\u2019s launch, leading electrophysiology specialists from the United States visited Chennai and collaborated with the hospital team during the first procedures.<\/p>\n
PFA is a next-generation treatment for heart rhythm disorders, particularly atrial fibrillation (AF). Unlike conventional ablation methods that use heat or extreme cold, PFA uses controlled electrical pulses to selectively eliminate abnormal heart tissue through a process known as electroporation.<\/p>\n
The technology targets affected cells while minimising damage to surrounding structures, including the oesophagus, phrenic nerve and blood vessels, making it a safer and more efficient non-thermal treatment option.<\/p>\n
The launch event was attended by cardiologist Dr. N.S. Sivakadaksham, who served as the chief guest. He welcomed the introduction of the technology and highlighted its potential to improve treatment outcomes for patients suffering from heart rhythm disorders.<\/p>\n
During the event, he also inaugurated Kauvery Hospitals\u2019 new \u201cHeart Rhythm Package,\u201d an affordable screening and evaluation programme aimed at early diagnosis and treatment of patients experiencing symptoms such as palpitations, breathlessness, dizziness, unexplained fatigue and rapid heartbeat.<\/p>\n
Hospital officials said the package is designed to encourage early detection and timely treatment, helping improve long-term patient outcomes and quality of life.
