Read our review here.<\/p>\n Plot<\/strong><\/p>\n Munna (Harshith Reddy), a carefree youngster from a lower-middle-class family, visits a Mee Seva center and falls for Amulya (Smeha Manimegalai), an employee there. Determined to win her over, he starts finding excuses to see her every day and eventually proposes to her. However, Amulya challenges him to secure a government job before thinking about a relationship. Taking her words seriously, Munna sets out to transform himself. But can a young man with no clear goals achieve such a difficult target? The answers form the rest of the story.<\/p>\n Performances<\/strong><\/p>\n With each passing film, Harshith Reddy is only getting better and gives a wonderful performance. He gets to portray two different shades in the film and is equally effective as the irresponsible youth and as the one who takes things seriously in life. When it comes to emotional scenes, Harshith is very good and emotes well. Smeha Manimegalai gets an author-backed role and delivers a wonderful performance. Though she looks a bit naive at the beginning, as the movie progresses, she is good. Jhansi and Naresh get key roles and are good as always, and bring depth to the proceedings.<\/p>\n Technical Aspects<\/strong><\/p>\n Script-wise, Deewana looks like a coming-of-age drama, but the twist that is unleashed is very good and takes the audience aback for a moment. Eshwar Chand\u2019s music is the soul of the film, and though there are no chartbusters, they carry the emotion properly. The lyrics are good, but the dialogue could have been better in emotional scenes. The production values are neat, and the production design depicts the story reasonably well. The camerawork is impressive, but the costume design is not that effective.<\/p>\n Positives:<\/strong><\/p>\n 1.\u2060 \u2060Harshit Reddy\u2019s performance Negatives:<\/strong><\/p>\n 1.\u2060 Over The Top Emotional Scenes Analysis<\/strong><\/p>\n The director, Sreekanth Sangishetti, took a very basic plot of a \u2018boy meets a girl and falling in love with her instantly\u2019 and executed the majority of the first half in a routine manner. But, right from the pre-interval to the climax, he made sure, Deewana, has a very original soul. After unveiling an unexpected twist during the pre-interval episode, the film gets into the zone of an intense emotional drama and it is where \u2018Deewana\u2019, stood out compared to the regular romantic drama films we see often.<\/p>\n The entire second half runs on a very intense note with quite a few hard hitting sequences which we usually don\u2019t see much in Telugu movies. The good thing about these disturbing sequences is that they aren\u2019t pretentious. They were original, well-written, well-performed, and well-executed. The best part of the second half is the way the drama was executed with a very few sequences between the lead pair along with a well-executed climax. The makers of the film deserve appreciation for sticking true to the story and for avoiding unnecessary commercial elements. The casting of Natesh and Jhansi in crucial roles, also helped in the favour of the film. Both the actors brought the required depth into the emotional drama, particularly in the second half.<\/p>\n On the flip side, the romantic track between the lead pair during the initial hour of the film lacked freshness. We have seen a similarly executed romantic tracks quite a few times in the past. Better writing for the initial hour of the film, would have definitely made the film a memorable one. Also, the director took a lot of cinematic liberties while showing the transformation of the lead actor, in the second half. It looked rushed and very convenient.<\/p>\n Overall, Deewana is an intense emotional drama from the pre-interval sequence. If you like hard-hitting emotional dramas without any sugar coating.
