The \u200cnumber of \u200bconfirmed Ebola cases in the \u200cDemocratic \u200cRepublic \u200cof \u2060Congo \u2060has increased to 1,333, \u200bincluding 399 deaths, government data showed \u200con Tuesday (June 30, 2026).<\/p>\n

The cases \u2060were recorded in \u200cthe eastern provinces of \u200cIturi, North Kivu \u200band South \u2060Kivu.<\/p>\n

Possible Ebola spread to two new province<\/h4>\n

Congolese health authorities are tracing people potentially exposed to Ebola in two provinces \u200bnot previously affected by the latest outbreak, amid fears the \u200cvirus could spread further, a Health Ministry report \u200band a senior health official said.<\/p>\n

The outbreak, \u2060declared on May 15, has so far infected 1,333 people and killed 377 across the eastern provinces of Ituri, North \u200cKivu and South Kivu, according to government data released on Monday.<\/p>\n

In Tshopo province, health \u200cworkers are tracing people who may have been \u200cexposed \u2060to the body of a pregnant \u2060woman who died of Ebola in Ituri\u2019s Niania health zone, according to a health ministry report dated June 29 and reviewed \u200bby Reuters<\/i>.<\/p>\n

The woman fell \u200cill on June 18 and died on June 27, the report said. Her body was transported by motorcycle about 300 km west to the city \u200cof Kisangani in neighbouring Tshopo province, where a \u200bsample taken at a morgue tested positive for Ebola.<\/p>\n

The report said the body\u2019s \u2060journey through several health zones before the diagnosis was made created a high risk of transmission. Authorities have \u200claunched contact-tracing efforts across the province.<\/p>\n

Separately, a senior health official, who asked to remain anonymous as he is not allowed to brief the media, told Reuters that two people identified as contacts of Ebola cases in Niania and who had been placed \u200cin isolation for testing, had fled to Haut-Uele province.<\/p>\n

Like Tshopo, \u200bHaut-Uele neighbours Ituri. It also shares borders with South Sudan and the Central African Republic.<\/p>\n

One \u2060of the two tested positive for Ebola, the \u2060official said, while the second was awaiting a confirmatory test. Both have since been located and \u200care being returned to Niania, he said, while health teams trace anyone they may have encountered \u200bin Haut-Uele.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
