Sophie Ecclestone said it felt good to have regained family bragging rights from her brother after a five-wicket haul in the inaugural women\u2019s Test at Lord\u2019s on Sunday gained the England left-arm spinner a prized place on the dressing room honours board.<\/p>\n

The four-day clash against India, which concludes on Monday, takes place 142 years — and 150 matches — since the London ground first staged a men\u2019s Test.<\/p>\n

It is also 50 years since Lord\u2019s hosted its first women\u2019s match, a one-day international between England and Australia.<\/p>\n

Until recently, women\u2019s games at the \u2018Home of Cricket\u2019 were a rarity, with Ecclestone\u2019s brother James playing at Lord\u2019s before his sister did, when appearing in the 2021 Village Cup final.<\/p>\n

But Ecclestone, also involved in England\u2019s T20 World Cup final defeat by Australia at Lord\u2019s on July 4, has now played two games at the London ground within a week.<\/p>\n

During the course of the Test, she surpassed the previous England record of 335 all-format international wickets set by retired fast bowler Katherine Sciver-Brunt.<\/p>\n

And on Sunday her return of 5-118 in 33.3 overs saw the 27-year-old become the first woman on the Test honours board in the home dressing room.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t ideal, but obviously, it was pretty cool for him,\u201d said Ecclestone of her brother\u2019s appearance at Lord\u2019s.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I\u2019ve got one up on him now. I\u2019m on the honours board at Lord\u2019s, and I don\u2019t think he\u2019ll ever do that, so yeah, I\u2019m one up on him now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty special. I\u2019m in the Lord\u2019s changing room forever now.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Ecclestone said she had shed tears when running on to the field on Sunday morning, after learning of former England captain Heather Knight\u2019s decision to \u201cdo a Ben Stokes\u201d by announcing her retirement from international cricket mid-Test.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s been around ever since I made my debut,\u201d said Ecclestone of Knight.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor her to be at extra cover always cheering me on, I feel like I can\u2019t really imagine this cricket team without her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Amazing Gaud\u2019<\/h4>\n

But for all Ecclestone\u2019s efforts, India is poised for a decisive victory thanks to two honours board heroines of its own.<\/p>\n

Yastika Bhatia became the first woman to score a Test century at Lord\u2019s on Sunday, the cornerstone of India\u2019s second-innings 341-7 declared.<\/p>\n

At stumps, England had slumped to 130-6, still needing 327 more runs to reach a mammoth victory target of 457.<\/p>\n

India\u2019s strong position also owed much to seamer Kranti Gaud\u2019s superb 5-37 in England\u2019s modest first-innings 170 all out.<\/p>\n

\u201cI played a couple of years at UP (Uttar Pradesh) with Kranti, and she\u2019s shown how good she is the last few days,\u201d said Ecclestone.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s been amazing and deserves to be on the honours board.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not for the first time this season, a match involving the England women\u2019s team risked being overshadowed on Sunday by news concerning the men\u2019s side, in this case the sacking of Brendon McCullum as Test coach.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s to our regret that this comes out on day three of the Test,\u201d England and Wales Cricket Board chief executive Richard Gould told reporters at Lord\u2019s on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got a number of great players with their (England) careers coming to an end tomorrow.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith Tammy (Beaumont) and Heather, we hope we can get the focus and attention back on to them for the fourth day of the Test.\u201d<\/p>\n
