U.S. \u200cPresident Donald Trump \u200bsaid \u2060on Tuesday (July 14, 2026) that trade and investment deals \u200cwith the Gulf states will \u200creplace the \u200c20% \u2060fee for ships \u2060to pass through the Strait of Hormuz<\/a> \u200bthat \u200che had proposed a day earlier.<\/p>\n

He announced that the Strait of Hormuz is open to all ship traffic except for Iran. \u201cWe will therefore have a FULL Blockade, but only on Ships coming to and from Iranian ports, or carrying anything have to do with Iranian cargo,\u201d he posted on Truth Social.<\/p>\n

\u201cBased on highly \u200cproductive conversations with \u200bMiddle East leadership, I have \u2060decided to replace the 20% \u200cUnited States Reimbursement Fee with Trade and Investment Deals that the various Gulf \u200cStates will be \u200bmaking into the United States,\u201d \u2060he said in a \u2060post on Truth Social.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr. Trump did not \u200bmention any commitments by Gulf states, saying \u201cInvestments will be MASSIVE \u2060but, at the same time, extraordinarily good for them, and their future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shortly after Mr. Trump \u200cmade the 20% fee proposal on Monday (July 13, 2026), the U.N.\u2019s shipping agency said it opposed fees on ships passing through maritime waterways but added it would await more details of what Trump \u200chad in mind.<\/p>\n
