{"id":195308,"date":"2026-07-21T17:03:21","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T22:33:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newslink360.space\/?p=195308"},"modified":"2026-07-21T17:03:21","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T22:33:21","slug":"mccullum-pleased-with-englands-odi-resurgence-after-series-win-against-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newslink360.space\/?p=195308","title":{"rendered":"McCullum pleased with England\u2019s ODI resurgence after series win against India"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"content-body-71250559\">The last time England won back-to-back ODI series was nearly three years ago.<\/p>\n<p>With the 27-run win over India at Lord\u2019s on Sunday, the host took the series 2-1, its second on the bounce after having beaten Sri Lanka away earlier this year (also 2-1).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the last two series we have played in this format, we\u2019ve found ourselves one nil down, and that\u2019s a real test of your belief as a group and camaraderie,\u201d said England coach Brendon McCullum, after the run-fest that witnessed nearly 750 runs being scored.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the pressure ramps up a little bit, to still be able to stay on the task, and try and play the style of cricket you want. It\u2019s a good achievement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>England has won only three of its last nine bilateral ODI series, and the fact that two of those have come this year \u2013 on the long road towards the World Cup next October \u2013 augurs well.<\/p>\n<p>Beating Sri Lanka away is never easy, as India discovered last August when it tied one game and lost two in a three-match tourney. And a triumph over India, the World\u2019s No. 1 ranked ODI side, is certainly another feather in England\u2019s cap.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe made a bit of a pivot before Sri Lanka where we decided we needed more variation across our squad,\u201d McCullum said. \u201cNow, we\u2019ve got left-handers, right-handers, touch players, power players, seam-bowling all-rounders, left-armers, leg-spinners, off-spinners\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHarry [Brook], as a captain, has been brave enough to utilise these variations, and when you go to South Africa, you can get very different surfaces. We want to make sure we\u2019ve got options.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the same time, we also know that it\u2019s vital that you get results in the short term and that\u2019s why today [Sunday] feels good because we were able to get across the line against an outstanding Indian side by getting the job done under quite a bit of pressure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With McCullum losing his Test job recently and now in charge of only the English white-ball teams, he can possibly narrow and sharpen his focus. But with England having a number of all-format players, like Brook, Jofra Archer and Jacob Bethell, he cannot quite ring-fence himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCollaboratively, I think,\u201d McCullum said when asked how resources would be shared. \u201cOnce the new [Test] coach is put in place, we\u2019ll have a good conversation around everything. Ultimately, as long as everyone wants what\u2019s right for English cricket, there\u2019ll be some give and take.
