Hyundai has patented the design of a new off-road 4X4 SUV named Boulder in India, which will potentially be launched in the market to compete with off-road SUVs like Mahindra Thar. The Boulder Concept, which was presented globally at the New York International Auto Show in April 2026, caught everyone’s attention with its boxy and rugged design. Powertrain and performance<\/h3>\n
Official details have not been released yet, but if reports are to be believed, the Boulder could be the company’s first body-on-frame SUV. It is likely to come with AWD (All-Wheel Drive) system, differential locking and ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) powertrain as well as EV variants. This setup will give it off-road capabilities like Thar. It will also ensure comfortable driving on the highway.<\/p>\n

It is clear from the patent filing in India that Hyundai is developing this model for the local market. Compared to Mahindra Thar, Boulder will come with more premium positioning. The price is expected to be around Rs 60 lakh. The launch date has not been announced yet, but after the patent the development process has accelerated.
