England named former New \u200bZealand batter \u2060Stephen Fleming as head coach and reappointed Joe Root \u200bas Test captain \u200con Thursday \u200cfollowing the departures of Ben \u200cStokes and \u200cBrendon \u2060McCullum.<\/p>\n

Fleming had recently ended an 18-year coaching stint with Indian Premier League side Chennai Super Kings. As a player he was New Zealand\u2019s longest-serving (80 Tests) and most successful Test captain (28 wins).\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fleming\u2019s role with England will begin after the start of the upcoming Test Series against Pakistan, during which Marcus Trescothick will serve as interim Head Coach.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m incredibly excited to be joining England as Test Coach. It\u2019s one of the most prestigious coaching positions in world cricket and I am honoured to be appointed,\u201d said Fleming in a statement released by ECB.<\/p>\n

The Kiwi coach also expressed his excitement to work with Root. \u201cI\u2019m particularly looking forward to working with Joe Root as Captain – a generational talent who has achieved so much already.\u201d<\/p>\n

Root, 35, holds the record for captaining England Men in the most Tests (65) as well as to the most wins (27 wins).\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt \u200cis a great honour and privilege to be asked \u200cto be England \u200bmen\u2019s test captain again,\u201d Root \u2060said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Test captaincy \u200cis a difficult but hugely rewarding job and, after enjoying a brief taste of \u200cit again working with \u200bBrendon McCullum last month, I \u2060am excited to lead \u2060this next generation of players \u200cforward.\u201d<\/p>\n
