Palani Gurusamy, the 52-year-old Detroit-based stakeholder in Leeds United who recently became co-owner of TNPL franchise Madurai Panthers, believes the league\u2019s decade-long journey has laid a strong foundation for sustained growth, while insisting his investment was driven by passion for the sport rather than immediate financial returns.<\/p>\n

Originally from Kovilpatti near Madurai, Palani said the opportunity to acquire the franchise was a natural fit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got to know about Madurai\u2019s availability. My hometown is near Madurai. So, it suited my thoughts,\u201d he said on the sidelines of his franchise\u2019s jersey launch event on Saturday.<\/p>\n

He argued that the TNPL\u2019s longevity distinguishes it from other State leagues.<\/p>\n

\u201cTNPL has been there for 10 years. TNCA laid the foundation very well, and now it\u2019s been very steady. We are confident that this league is going to get stronger and stronger in the coming years,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Pointing to cricket\u2019s growing global appeal, he noted that the IPL is increasingly attracting international attention beyond the sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cIPL is becoming a top discussion in the western media. Foreign companies are investing in IPL,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Palani said he remained open to expanding his sporting portfolio if the right opportunity emerged. \u201cWe\u2019ve just been presented an opportunity with respect to the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). Not (referring to) the teams, but the league itself,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
