{"id":199250,"date":"2026-08-04T04:41:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T10:11:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newslink360.space\/?p=199250"},"modified":"2026-08-04T04:41:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T10:11:11","slug":"ben-stokes-breaks-silence-on-englands-captaincy-call-my-only-worry-is-joe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newslink360.space\/?p=199250","title":{"rendered":"Ben Stokes breaks silence on England&#8217;s captaincy call: &#8216;My only worry is Joe&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"content-body-71304668\">Ben Stokes has set his sights on a future in coaching, revealing he would \u201cabsolutely\u201d love to lead England from the dressing room once his playing days are over.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the       <i> For the Love of Cricket<\/i> podcast, the former England Test captain said he is already completing his Level 3 coaching qualification to ensure he is ready for life after retirement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know what I want to do&#8230; I\u2019d love to be coach of England one day,\u201d said the 35-year-old, who retired from international cricket during the third Test against New Zealand in June.<\/p>\n<p>Stokes also admitted he was surprised Harry Brook did not succeed him as England\u2019s Test captain, while expressing concern over Joe Root\u2019s return to the role. Root, who captained England between 2017 and 2022, won a record 27 Tests in 65 matches but stepped down after a difficult spell that included a 4-0 Ashes defeat and a run of one win in 17 Tests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish him nothing but success,\u201d Stokes said. \u201cMy only worry is just Joe. I saw what he went through last time. He always puts the team first and himself second. I don\u2019t want to see that happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Root will work alongside new Test coach Stephen Fleming, who replaced Brendon McCullum after England\u2019s disappointing run of results.<\/p>\n<p>Stokes also dismissed speculation of a rift with McCullum during their time together. \u201cWe never once fell out,\u201d he said. \u201cDid we have different opinions? One hundred per cent. But did we have a fallout?
