Day 2 of the first Test between Sri Lanka and India will begin at 9:45 AM, 15 minutes earlier than the scheduled start time after persistent rain disrupted proceedings on Day 1.
The bowling side will also be allowed to bowl a maximum of 98 overs on Day 2, an increase from the traditional 90 overs of play.
The weather in Galle played spoilsport twice during Day 1, first during the start of the second session and then midway through the final session post Tea. The rain interruptions meant play had to be extended till 6:20 PM IST, and only a maximum of 73 overs was possible.
India finished Day 1 on 288/2 with Devdutt Padikkal and Rishabh Pant at the crease. Devdutt Padikkal’s unbeaten 131 and KL Rahul 77 has put the Men in Blue in the driver’s seat, and captain Shubman Gill will be hoping his batters can build on the momentum going into Day 2.
