The Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers Organisation and Government Employees Organisation (JACTTO‑GEO) went on a hunger strike urging the State government to fulfil their charter of demands in Madurai on Saturday.

The members demanded the revival of the Old Pension Scheme and scrapping of the new pension scheme. In 2021, the DMK in its poll promise said if they were elected to power then they would revive the old pension scheme. However, the DMK government had not yet implemented it as promised, they said.

JACTTO‑GEO members said their main demand was that the DMK government honour the 2021 election promise which was made to government employees and teachers.

They also demanded a fair pay scale, timely promotion and clearance of pending increments. Some of the other demands included service regularisation of part‑time and temporary employees and restoration of the provisions on special pay. They said that if their demands were not met then they would intensify their protests.
