Battery Smart crosses 100M EV battery swaps, launches Rs 10 Cr driver welfare fund

The Gurugram-based company stated that the swaps, completed nearly five years after its founding, have enabled approximately 3.5 billion clean kilometres of travel. Battery Smart estimates it operates about 70% of India’s battery-swapping infrastructure.
Battery Smart said it plans to expand into 100 additional cities by 2026, deploy thousands of new swap stations and increase daily battery swaps to meet rising demand from commercial EV operators.
Alongside the milestone, the company announced a Rs 10 crore Driver Welfare Fund, aimed at improving insurance coverage, rewards and skill development for its driver network. The initiative is expected to benefit around 100,000 electric vehicle drivers by 2026.
“Crossing 100 million swaps is a landmark for EV adoption in India, not just for us,” co-founders Pulkit Khurana and Siddharth Sikka said in a statement. “It demonstrates the potential of battery swapping to make clean mobility accessible, affordable, and inclusive at scale.”

The founders said each battery swap reflected “a driver choosing clean mobility over combustion, assurance over anxiety and improved uptime over long waiting hours,” adding that the achievement belonged to drivers, station partners, vehicle manufacturers, investors and policymakers.
Battery Smart said it has enabled cumulative driver earnings of more than Rs 2,800 crore through its platform. The company also said it works with more than 5,000 women drivers and over 250 women partners, as part of efforts to promote broader participation in the electric mobility ecosystem.
The company said its network relies on IoT-enabled batteries and real-time monitoring to support predictive maintenance and reduce vehicle downtime, a key factor for commercial drivers.
“Looking ahead, the Driver Welfare Fund reinforces our commitment to the community that made this possible,” the founders said. “As we continue to grow, we remain focused on strengthening India’s EV mobility backbone, powered by smarter IoT batteries, more efficient station operations, and robust safety systems.”
