Shubman Gill ruled out of IND vs SA 5th T20I due to injury, Sanju in Playing XI

Shubman Gill was ruled out of the fifth T20I between India and South Africa taking place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday after sustaining a toe injury.

The Indian vice-captain had suffered a blow to his foot in the lead-up to the fourth match of the series and was set to miss the game in Lucknow, before the contest was abandoned due to excessive fog.

Gill has struggled in the series thus far, managing just 32 runs from his three innings in the series including a golden duck in the second T20I in New Chandigarh, with his place in the side coming into some scrutiny on account of his patchy form.

Gill had earlier missed the majority of the Test series against the Proteas due to a neck injury he had suffered in the series opener in Kolkata, which had also ruled him out out of the three-match ODI series later.

India leads the five-match series 2-1, and the contest here on Friday will be its last assignment for the calendar year.
