England ends win drought in Australia: All records created in 4th Ashes Test in Melbourne
England ended its 18-match winless run in Tests in Australia with a four-wicket triumph on the second day of the fourth Ashes Test in Melbourne on Saturday.
Australia had secured a first-innings lead worth 42 runs. But the visitor bundled out Australia for 132 on the second morning, before chasing down the target of 178 inside 33 overs.
For Ben Stokes and Joe Root, this was the first Test win in Australia. England’s last win in the country came way back in Sydney in January 2011, when Andrew Strauss’ team triumphed by an innings and 83 runs. Since then England had lost 16 and drawn two games.

- 18 – England’s run of 18 games without a win is the joint-longest, along with South Africa, for a team in Australia.
- 7 – This Test was only the seventh in Ashes which finished inside two days. The first match in the series in Perth was the sixth.
- 852 – The fourth Test lasted only 852 balls, that’s the fourth-shortest completed match in Ashes.
- 572 – The match-aggregate of 572 runs is the fourth-highest in Tests without a single individual fifty.
- 3 – This was Australia’s third defeat in a Boxing Day Test since 2011, with the previous two coming against India in 2018 and 2020.
