Tata Motors launches its most powerful mining tipper, forays into deep mining segment
The Prima 3540.K AutoShift is designed specifically for deep-mining operations. It is powered by a Cummins 8.5-litre engine delivering 375 hp and 1,800 Nm of torque and is equipped with a 12-speed automated manual transmission.
Tata Motors said the tipper is built to operate in demanding mining conditions while improving fuel efficiency, reliability, and productivity. The vehicle also features a premium cabin and safety systems suited for heavy-haulage use.Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors Ltd., said, “With the introduction of the flagship Prima 3540.K, we are proud to mark our entry into the deep-mining segment with a purpose-built solution engineered for the most demanding conditions.”
Along with the Prima 3540.K, Tata Motors introduced the Prima E.28K, its first battery-electric tipper. The 28-tonne electric tipper is intended for zero-emission operations, including shallow mining, mineral movement, bulk cargo handling, and port applications.
The company also launched the Signa 2820.TK CNG, described as India’s first factory-fitted CNG tipper in the 28-tonne segment. Tata Motors stated that the vehicle is aimed at lowering the total cost of ownership and supporting sustainable construction operations.
Other vehicles displayed at EXCON 2025 included the Signa 4832.TK, the country’s first 48-tonne, five-axle tipper with a 32 cubic metre load body developed for coal movement, and the Prima 3532.TK, which offers a 26 cubic metre load body for surface transportation of construction aggregates.
The electric portfolio also featured the Prima E.55S battery-electric prime mover, which offers a driving range of up to 350 km and uses an integrated three-speed e-axle with a traction motor.
In addition to vehicles, Tata Motors showcased its aggregates and components portfolio. This included newly introduced 15 kVA and 35 kVA gensets, an existing 125 kVA genset range, CEV BS V-compliant industrial engines for construction equipment such as backhoe loaders and self-loading concrete mixers, live axles, and trailer axles and components, including after-treatment and urea systems.
Vikram Agrawal, Head – Spares and Non-Vehicular Business, Tata Motors Ltd., while unveiling the aggregates portfolio, said, “Our aggregate offerings at EXCON 2025 reflects Tata Motors’ commitment to delivering rugged, reliable and customer-centric solutions that support uninterrupted operations.”
Tata Motors, part of the $180-billion Tata Group, claims to be India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer and operates across India and several international markets.
Following a corporate restructuring approved in October 2025, the company now operates under the name Tata Motors Limited.
