Tata Motors PV gears up for strong Sierra demand, plans broader price review in January
Shailesh Chandra, MD and CEO, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles said, “The extent of enquiries that we have been getting, and also people booking their interest, is enormously high. We expect that when the bookings open on 16th, the numbers would be overwhelmingly high. We are just expecting on 16th we get a positive surprise for all of us.”
December is traditionally a strong retail month as customers look for deals before the new year. Chandra noted that discount levels are slightly higher than November, but the approach remains selective and pre-planned.Only specific models receive enhanced offers, and Tata Motors expects December retail demand to match the strong festive season performance.
Tata Motors is evaluating a price increase in January or sometime during the fourth quarter. Chandra emphasised that the company will fully maintain the GST 2.0 price reductions, which lowered vehicle prices by 3.5% to 8.5% across segments. However, commodity prices have risen steadily through 2025. The total impact is estimated at 1.5–2% of revenue since the last price hike earlier in the year. While Tata Motors has absorbed part of this cost through internal efficiencies, the remaining portion may need to be passed on to customers. The final decision and exact quantum are still under review.

Chandra described the overall auto market sentiment as very positive. Since the GST revision in late September, year-on-year inquiries have grown in double digits at Tata Motors. Bookings and industry-wide sales have also shown strong double-digit growth over the past few months, with December continuing this trend.
