The seizure of a record quantity of mephedrone, valued at ₹81 crore in the illicit market, is considered a major blow to drug trafficking networks. A DRI spokesperson said here on Tuesday (January 13, 2026) that the anti-smuggling agency’s officers intercepted a truck on Deedwana-Kuchaman State highway in Rajasthan that was transporting agro-based cargo.
“A detailed examination led to the recovery of 270 kg of mephedrone ingeniously concealed within a consignment of chicken feed,” the spokesperson said. The vehicle’s driver and members of the syndicate involved in the transportation, as well as persons escorting the consignment, were apprehended on the spot.
Follow up searches conducted at multiple locations in Haryana resulted in the arrest of other key members of the syndicate, who were involved in the manufacture and supply of the seized contraband. The spokesperson said some raw material was also found in a dismantled clandestine drugs manufacturing facility.
“The operation was logistically challenging, involving sustained efforts, interstate coordination, and precise execution to intercept the movement of the contraband,” the spokesperson said. The seizure of contraband and the arrest of six key syndicate members have led to the unravelling of a well-organised, multi-jurisdictional narcotics syndicate operating across several States.
The DRI has already busted six clandestine factories illicitly manufacturing mephedrone, alprazolam, and methamphetamine in Wardha, Hyderabad, and Greater Noida during the current financial year. The spokesperson said the agency has carried out intelligence-driven enforcement and launched coordinated action to curb the menace of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
