Udupi District Congress cell seeks action against Udupi DC

The Udupi District Congress Committee’s Legal and Human Rights Cell has written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seeking action against Udupi Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa for holding a saffron flag when launching the Paryaya Procession on Sunday, January 18, morning.

In the letter on Monday, President of the Cell, Harish Shetty, said Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna handed the RSS flag to Ms. Swaroopa, which she waved to flag off the Paryaya procession from Jodu Katte to Krishna Mutt.

Such conduct was unacceptable as it goes against service rules and the officers’ constitutional duties. This should be treated as grave misconduct. It should be inquired into, and suitable action should be taken against the Deputy Commissioner, the letter said.

In her statement, Ms. Swaroopa said she participated in the Paryaya procession in her capacity as the administrator of Udupi City Municipal Council. She also attended the programme to accord civic reception to the Shiroor Mutt Seer Vedavardhana Tirtha Swamiji and later took part in the seer’s Paryaya Darbar in the Krishna Mutt premises. There is no political motive in her participation in the paryaya-related events on Sunday, she said in a statement.
