Market Entry: Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast has received 5-star safety ratings for its VF6 and VF7 electric SUVs under the Bharat NCAP. The ratings apply to both models sold in India and cover adult and child occupant protection. The assessment follows crash tests conducted in November 2025, shortly after the vehicles entered the Indian market.

Rating Summary: According to Bharat NCAP results, both VF6 and VF7 achieved 5 stars in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP). The VF6 scored 27.13 out of 32 in AOP and 44.41 out of 49 in COP. The VF7 recorded 28.54 out of 32 in AOP and 45.25 out of 49 in COP.

VF6 Adult Safety: In adult occupant tests, the VF6 scored 11.13 out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and a full 16 out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. The driver’s head, neck, pelvis and thighs were rated good, while the chest was rated weak and the right tibia marginal. Passenger protection was largely rated good.

VF6 Child Safety: For child occupant protection, the VF6 secured 44.41 points out of 49. The dynamic score stood at 22.41 out of 24, with a full 12 out of 12 for child restraint system installation and 10 out of 13 in vehicle assessment. Both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies showed controlled protection in frontal impacts and full protection in side impacts.

VF7 Adult Safety: The VF7 achieved 12.54 out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and 16 out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. Driver’s head, pelvis and lower legs were rated good, while chest protection was marked weak and tibias adequate. The side pole impact test result was recorded as OK, meeting the required protection criteria.

VF7 Child Safety: In child occupant protection, the VF7 scored 45.25 out of 49. The dynamic score reached 23.25 out of 24, with full marks for child seat installation and 10 out of 13 in vehicle assessment. The 18-month-old dummy showed strong protection in frontal and side tests, while the 3-year-old dummy achieved full protection in both scenarios.

Test Observations: Bharat NCAP noted that in frontal impact tests, head and neck protection scores for both driver and passenger in VF6 and VF7 reached the maximum 4.000 points. In side impact tests, both vehicles achieved full scores for adult and child occupants. Pole side impact head injury values were 109 for VF6 and 131 for VF7, below the threshold of 700.

Company Statement: Commenting on the results, the company said, “Both VF6 and VF7 achieved 5-star ratings in the two core safety categories. These scores reflect a high level of protection for both adult and child occupants across both models.” The statement highlighted consistent performance across frontal, side and pole impact assessments conducted under Bharat NCAP protocols.

India Operations: Both VF6 and VF7 are locally assembled at VinFast’s plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The automaker has sold over 1,000 electric cars since launching its first models in India in September 2025 and entered the top four electric car sellers in December.
