Yamaha enters India EV market with EC-06, claims 169 km range: Price, features


India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd., on Monday, launched its first electric scooter, the EC-06, at ₹1,67,600 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The scooter comes in Bluish White and will be sold in select cities through Yamaha’s Blue Square showrooms.According to Yamaha, the EC-06 delivers a driving range of 169 km and is built for daily commuting. The company added that the scooter was developed in India. It runs on an IPMSM motor with a 4 kWh fixed battery. Output figures are 26 Nm of torque and 6.7 kW peak power. Top speed is 79 km/h.
The battery is covered by a 3-year or 30,000 km warranty. Charging uses a standard home plug point and takes about eight hours for a full charge. The motor and battery are IP67 rated, while other electronics are IP65 rated.
Three riding modes are available: Eco, Standard and Power. The scooter also has a Reverse Mode for low-speed movement in tight spaces. Suspension includes telescopic front forks with hydraulic dampers and a rear coil spring unit.

Braking is handled by 200 mm disc brakes at the front and rear with a Combi Brake System. A colour LCD display shows speed, battery level, riding mode and connectivity details. The scooter also features LED headlamps and tail lamps.

The EC-06 works with the Yamaha Motor Connect R app for real-time data and connected features. Under-seat storage capacity is 24.5 litres.

Yamaha Motor Co. entered India in 1985 through a joint venture. In 2001, it became a wholly owned subsidiary. In 2008, Mitsui & Co., Ltd. became a joint investor in India Yamaha Motor. In 2013, Yamaha set up Yamaha Motor Research & Development India Pvt. Ltd. to handle R&D and product development for domestic and export markets.

Manufacturing plants are located in Surajpur, Uttar Pradesh, and Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. Yamaha’s India lineup includes motorcycles such as XSR155, YZF-R15 variants and MT-15, along with hybrid scooters including Fascino 125 FI Hybrid and Ray ZR 125 FI Hybrid.
