Coimbatore case accused escapes from police custody in Madurai


An accused from Coimbatore who was brought to Madurai for producing before the Advisory Board escaped from police custody at Nagamalai Pudukottai on Tuesday night.

The police said that Prayan of Uttar Pradesh was booked under the Goondas Act and was brought to be produced before the Advisory Board.

Police personnel, led by a Woman Sub-Inspector of Police, had brought him, along with three others, on Tuesday night for lodging him in Central Prison in Madurai for a night halt before producing him before the Advisory Board on Wednesday morning.

The police van had stopped to buy food at a roadside eatery at Nagamalai Pudukottai at around 8 p.m.

Even as two policemen went to the hotel, Prayan escaped from the van and disappeared under the cover of darkness. A manhunt has been launched for the absconding accused.
