Maruti Suzuki ships 5.85 lakh cars by train in 2025; 26% of total dispatches
The automaker said it avoided 87,904 metric tonnes of CO2e emissions and saved more than 687 lakh litres of fuel through rail transport.
Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO, said, “During the year, we strengthened our green logistic efforts through two landmark events – the inauguration of India’s largest automobile in-plant railway siding at our Manesar facility. Second, we dispatched vehicles by rail to the Kashmir valley through the world’s highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab river, a first by any automobile manufacturer.”Read more: Maruti Suzuki cars cross world’s highest rail bridge to reach Anantnag in first batch
Takeuchi added, “Our mid-term goal is to increase rail-based vehicle dispatches to 35% by FY31, contributing to India’s net-zero ambition by 2070.”

Maruti Suzuki claims to be the first automobile company to obtain an AFTO licence in 2013. Since FY2014-15, it has transported over 28 lakh vehicles by rail from 22 destinations to more than 600 cities using a hub-and-spoke model.
The company currently operates over 45 flexi deck rakes, each capable of carrying about 260 vehicles per trip. In 2025, rail dispatches from its in-plant railway sidings in Gujarat and Manesar accounted for 53% of its total rail dispatches.
