Prime Video’s musical dramedy Bandwaale, starring Shalini Pandey, Zahan Kapoor and Swanand Kirkire, to launch on February 13Set in the town of Ratlam, Bandwaale follows Mariam, a young poetess who begins anonymously sharing her poetry online while navigating her search for independence and identity. Her deeply personal poems, penned by lyricist Kausar Munir, become a quiet yet powerful form of expression, helping her voice emotions she struggles to articulate. Her journey unfolds alongside her bandmates and closest companions, Robo and DJ Psycho, who bring humour, music and companionship into her world.
Announcing the series, Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of Originals, Prime Video India, said, “At Prime Video, we stay committed to showcase stories that are authentic in voice and distinctive in tone.” He added that Bandwaale “is a warm, grounded comedy drama that brings together a beautiful blend of music, humour and emotions in a story rooted in familiar realities.”
Produced by OML Entertainment, Bandwaale is created and written by Ankur Tewari and Swanand Kirkire, and directed by Akshat Verma and Ankur Tewari. Tusharr Kumar, CEO, OML Entertainment, called the series “a story about discovering one’s identity and challenging expectations that are imposed rather than chosen,” adding that collaborating with Prime Video once again has been “immensely fulfilling.”
One of the key highlights of the show is its musical landscape. The series features original compositions by Yashraj Mukhate, marking his first major project composing for a long-format streaming series. Reflecting on the story, Swanand Kirkire shared, “Bandwaale is a story that grew from everyday observations about expression, hesitation, and the quiet courage it takes to be yourself.” He further added, “Mariam’s journey reflects how creativity, friendship, and music can offer strength in moments of doubt.”
Ankur Tewari also described the series as rooted and relatable, saying, “From the very beginning our intention with Bandwaale was to tell a grounded story that feels honest and familiar.” He added that the team wanted to stay true to Mariam’s world and “the way her poetry shapes her self-discovery.”
The series stars Shalini Pandey, Zahan Kapoor and Swanand Kirkire in lead roles, supported by an ensemble cast, including Ashish Vidyarthi, Anupama Kumar and Sanjana Dipu. Bandwaale is set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on February 13.
