Actor Sonu Sood has spoken out in support of comedian Rajpal Yadav following the latter’s imprisonment in a cheque bounce case, calling on the film industry to stand together during difficult times. Sharing a note on social media, Sonu highlighted Rajpal’s contribution to Indian cinema and stressed the need for dignity and collective responsibility rather than sympathy.

Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal,” Sonu wrote. Announcing that Rajpal would be part of his upcoming film, he added, “He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us.. producers, directors, colleagues to stand together. A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity, it’s dignity.”

Sonu further underlined the emotional weight of the situation, saying, “When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone. This is how we show we are more than just an industry.”

Rajpal Yadav, one of Hindi cinema’s most recognisable comic actors, surrendered to Tihar Jail authorities in Delhi on Thursday after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him relief in a cheque bounce case involving an amount of Rs 2.5 crore. The court declined his plea seeking an extension of the deadline for surrender, leaving the actor with no legal reprieve.

Speaking to journalist Subhash K Jha about his situation, Rajpal expressed helplessness. “Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain (sir, what to do? I don’t have the money to pay back). Aur koi upaay nahin dikhta (can’t see another way out),” he said.

When asked why he had not reached out to influential colleagues he has worked with extensively over the years, including director Priyadarshan, Rajpal responded candidly. “Sir, yahan hum sab akele hain (sir, we are all on our own over here). There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own.”

Rajpal Yadav has been a staple of Hindi cinema for decades, known for memorable performances across comedies, dramas and character roles.
