Nikhil Siddhartha opens up on the historical core of Swayambhu; reveals film is inspired by Sengol : Bollywood News

Actor Nikhil Siddhartha has offered fresh insight into the thematic foundation of his upcoming film Swayambhu, shedding light on the historical and symbolic element that anchors the film’s narrative. The project draws inspiration from the Sengol, an ancient emblem associated with righteous governance and moral authority, which recently returned to public attention after being installed in the new Parliament building.

Nikhil Siddhartha opens up on the historical core of Swayambhu; reveals film is inspired by SengolSpeaking about the core idea behind the film, Nikhil explained how Swayambhu takes cues from a lesser-known but significant aspect of Indian history. “Swayambhu is a story derived from a very special and very unique aspect of Indian history which is the history of Sengol. We all popularly know Sengol as something that was carried by honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the inauguration of Indian Parliament and is installed in the new parliament building. But not many know the rich history behind the Sengol. It was first given by Lord Rama to his descendent. It stands for righteous governance, justice and the power to be able to effectively rule. This Sengol has traveled in the history of India and has had a lot of significance in Indian empires like the great Chola dynasty. We have created a fictionalised story around the Sengol and our hero.”

The Sengol’s legacy spans centuries, symbolising authority rooted in ethical rule and responsibility. By placing this emblem at the centre of its story, Swayambhu aims to merge historical references with a fictional narrative, offering audiences a cinematic interpretation of its journey and meaning.

Adding to the growing anticipation around the film, the makers have announced that the teaser of Swayambhu will be unveiled at a Pan-India event across two cities simultaneously on February 11. The dual-city launch highlights the scale at which the film is being positioned, with the makers targeting a nationwide audience.

Produced by Bhuvan and Shreekar under the banner of Pixel Studios, Swayambhu is set against a backdrop of mythology, history, and imagined storytelling. The film is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on February 13, 2026, coinciding with the occasion of Maha Shivratri.

With its focus on a culturally significant symbol and a large-scale rollout planned ahead of release, Swayambhu is shaping up as a period-inspired project that looks to explore India’s historical motifs through a contemporary cinematic lens.
