T20 World Cup 2026: Ben Curran approved as replacement for Brendan Taylor in Zimbabwe squad


The Event Technical Committee of the men’s T20 World Cup on Friday approved Ben Curran as a replacement for Brendan Taylor in the Zimbabwe squad. The said committee comprises Wasim Khan (Chair, ICC General Manager – Cricket), Gaurav Saxena (ICC General Manager – Events & Corporate Communications, IBC representative), Hemang Amin (Tournament Director, host representative), and Shaun Pollock (Independent nominee).

Taylor has been ruled out, having sustained a right hamstring injury during the match against Oman on Monday.

And following a medical assessment, it was determined that he will not recover in time to take any further part in the competition.

The 29-year-old Ben, a left-handed top-order batter, has featured in eight Tests and eight One-Day Internationals. However, he is yet to make his debut in the shortest format.

He joins the Zimbabwe squad in Sri Lanka on the back of an impressive run in domestic white-ball cricket.

Zimbabwe, which stunned Australia by 23 runs, takes on Ireland next on Tuesday, February 17.
