Actor Rajpal Yadav on Wednesday thanked the film fraternity and audiences for standing by him following his release from jail, while also calling for certain reforms within the prison system.

Rajpal Yadav speaks after release, thanks fans for support: “There should be designated smoking areas inside jails”Speaking to PTI Video at his ancestral village in Shahjahanpur district after walking out of Tihar Jail in connection with a cheque-bounce case, the actor said he had received immense love and encouragement from people during the challenging period.

Reflecting on the experience, Yadav maintained an upbeat tone, saying, “Laugh at me or because of me, but keep smiling.”

He also spoke about prison conditions and suggested that regulated facilities could help improve inmate life.
“There should be designated smoking areas inside jails, similar to facilities at railway stations and airports,” he said, stressing that structured provisions are better than unregulated practices.

The actor further emphasised that prisons should work as reform centres rather than merely spaces of punishment.
“It is often difficult to judge from outside who is a hardened criminal and who made a one-time mistake,” Yadav observed, adding that while opportunities for change should exist, “the law remains supreme for those unwilling to reform.”

Currently staying at his ancestral home in Shahjahanpur, Yadav’s remarks bring renewed attention to conversations around prison reform, rehabilitation and inmate welfare.
