Sri Lanka and England are looking to get their Super 8s campaigns off to a winning start when they meet at the Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy on Sunday, February 22.
However, there are significant concerns over whether or not inclement weather will play spoilsport to the match. If the match is disrupted by rain, it will become the second consecutive match in the group to be halted after Pakistan and New Zealand’s match in Colombo was called off on Sunday.
Under the International Cricket Council’s regulations for the 2026 T20 World Cup Super 8 stage, there are no reserve days. A minimum of five overs per side must be completed for a result to be declared. If that threshold is not met by the cut-off time, the match will be abandoned as a No Result, with both teams sharing the points.
The forecast looks ominous for both teams, with AccuWeather’s reading suggesting that there is close to 75% chance of rain at the Pallekele International Stadium.
With crucial Super 8 points at stake, the weather could have a significant say before a ball is even bowled.
