WhatsApp can bring SIM re-verification feature in India under new government rules. Users with +91 number may have to re-confirm the number from time to time. Know the complete update.

New SIM rule of WhatsApp.
A big change is about to come for WhatsApp users in India. According to reports, the company is preparing to make changes in the SIM verification system to comply with the new government rules. This step is being taken following the instructions of the Department of Telecommunication. The government wants that the mobile number that has been closed or given to someone else should not be misused.
Many times it happens that a number gets switched off and later it goes to someone else. In such a situation, the old account may be misused.
How does WhatsApp work now?
Currently, WhatsApp verifies the number only by sending a 6-digit code while logging in for the first time. Once the verification is complete, the app does not re-check whether the SIM is still active or not.
What will change in the new system?
After the new update, WhatsApp will periodically check in the background whether the SIM installed in your phone is still active or not. If everything is correct, the user will not need to do anything. But if the system detects that the SIM is not active, then verification may have to be done by entering the 6 digit code again.
If verification fails, account access may be temporarily blocked. However, the good thing is that your chat history and old messages will remain safe.
Will login with Passkey work?
According to reports, Passkey login alone will not fulfill this rule, because the government wants the account to be linked to an active mobile number. The two-step verification feature of WhatsApp will continue as before.
Which users will be affected?
This change will be applicable only to those users in India whose number starts with +91. There will be no change for users from other countries at present. This feature is currently in testing and can be gradually rolled out in the coming months.
