Instagram users upset, thousands of complaints filed.

Social media platform Instagram has come to a halt, and users around the world are facing problems in running it. Many people have complained of difficulty in accessing the app, viewing messages and loading the feed. According to outage tracking website Downdetector, thousands of users have reported the problem on the platform.

According to DownDetector data, more than 10,000 reports were received, with the biggest spike seen at around 8:59 am (Indian time). DownDetector aggregates user reports from multiple sources to provide outage data, so the actual number of affected users may be higher.

Which countries have more problems?
According to the report, Instagram’s problem was most seen in the United States, where more than 10,000 complaints were registered. A spike in outages was also seen in India, but around 100 reports were registered here.

Apart from this, about 170 complaints were also reported in UK and the spike was seen there at around 9:11 am (Indian time).

What kind of problems do users face?
According to data from Downdetector:

  • 71% users had trouble accessing Instagram app
  • 19% users reported problems related to server connection.
  • 5% users had trouble viewing feed or timeline
  • Many users have also specifically complained about Instagram DMs not working.

No statement from Meta yet
Instagram’s parent company Meta has not yet issued any official statement regarding this technical problem, nor has it been told when the problem will be fixed.

However, the interesting thing is that this problem does not currently seem to affect other platforms of Meta like Facebook, Threads and WhatsApp.
