WhatsApp Account for Minor: Messaging app WhatsApp has given permission to open accounts even for children below 13 years of age. However, the control of this account will be completely in the hands of the parent. Meta has said that till now this facility was not available, but now parents will be able to open accounts of children below 13 years of age under their supervision.

WhatsApp has also introduced accounts for those below 13 years of age.
WhatsApp said in its blog that the new system of parent-controlled accounts is being introduced based on suggestions received from families and experts. Under this, parents or guardians will be able to create WhatsApp accounts for small children and limit their use to only sending messages or making calls. According to the company, parents will be able to control children’s contact lists, although the content of messages will be protected by ‘end to end encryption’.
Control will be in the hands of parents
The new control settings and other settings will be secured through a parental PIN and only parents will be able to view or change privacy settings. This means that even though the WhatsApp account is being opened in the name of the children, its complete control will be in the hands of the parents. Only parents will be able to make any settings in the account, whereas children will only be allowed to use it. The company said that this facility is currently being launched in a phased manner.
