Amazing work of British brothers! The Revenger Robot solved 4×4 Rubik’s Cube in 45 seconds, made Guinness World Record

Two British brothers have combined their passion for robotics and computer science to create a robot that broke the decades-old record for solving the Rubik’s Cube. Matthew Piden and Thomas Piden have created a robot named The Revenger, which solves the 4×4×4 Rubik’s Cube in just 45.30 seconds.

Both the brothers have also registered their feat in the Guinness World Records. The previous record was 1 minute 18.68 seconds in 2014, which was broken by this robot in about 33 seconds. Guinness has also declared this record officially. Let us tell you that the performance for this record was done in May 2025 itself.

How was The Revenger made?

Matthew Pidden is a Computer Science student at the University of Bristol. He started this project as his undergraduate final year project. In just 15 weeks he designed, built and tuned the robot. His brother Thomas also worked as a product designer. He has also made an important contribution in this. Both of them have made this robot perfectly with teamwork.

How does it work?

The Revenger has two webcams, which scan all the faces of the cube with computer vision technology. Four mechanical arms rotate and manipulate the cube. A custom algorithm runs on the laptop, extracting the fastest solution from the scan data. During the record attempt the cameras were covered with plastic shutters so that no faces could be seen before the attempt began. Due to this, the robot remained completely automated and it worked without any external network.

The robot made six attempts during a demonstration at Bristol University in May 2025. The first two were unsuccessful. The record was broken by 53 seconds in the third, but the brothers were confident that betterment was possible. A new record of 45.30 seconds was created in the sixth attempt. All the faces of the cube became one color and the crowd of spectators burst into applause.

What did Matthew and Thomas say?

Mathew said that since childhood I liked Rubik’s Cube and also computer science. It felt natural to combine the two and it turned out to be a great project. Thomas also said that small design changes have led to success. This effort of both the brothers is now making headlines in the country and the world.
