With regular skipper Pat Cummins set to miss the opening few IPL 2026 encounters due to injury, Sunrisers Hyderabad have named Ishan Kishan as the interim captain.
Opening batter Abhishek Sharma has been named Kishan’s deputy for the duration of Cummins’ injury layoff.
The Australian Test skipper has been in charge of the franchise since 2024 and guided the side to the final in his first season in charge. The side finished outside the Playoff places the following season, in 6th place.
Kishan was drafted into the team during the mega auction ahead of IPL 2025 in Jeddah for INR 11.25 crores. Kishan has early been been part of the Mumbai Indians and the Gujarat Lions.
Sunrisers will get their campaign underway against defending champion Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on March 28.
