V2x Technology: Demand for cars with Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) is increasing in India. The government is working hard to implement Vehicle-to-Everything technology (V2X) to make the roads safe. That is why now TRAI has been entrusted with the responsibility of deciding the structure of this technology and the price of spectrum.

New Delhi. The driving experience on Indian roads is going to change in the times to come. Your car will already inform you about potholes on the road, accident prone places or vehicles parked in the middle. This will be possible through Vehicle-to-Everything technology (V2X). The government has geared up to bring this to the ground. Recently, the Central Government handed over the responsibility of deciding the spectrum structure and prices for this technology to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has already reserved 50 MHz spectrum in the 5.8 GHz band for this purpose.

In simple words, the government is going to lay such a digital network on the roads, with the help of which vehicles will be able to communicate with each other and the road infrastructure. India has the highest number of road accidents in the world. V2X technology will provide real-time alerts to the driver about dangers that are not visible to him with his eyes. A framework will be needed to bring this technology to the ground.

V2X technology rests on two pillars

According to a report by Live Mint, vehicle connectivity is based on two main components. First, on-board units (OBUs). These are installed in vehicles. Second, Roadside Units (RSUs). These devices will be installed on traffic signals, light poles and on the sides of the highway. TRAI will now decide how spectrum will be allocated to operate these devices. There will be no need for license for the equipment installed inside the cars (OBUs), due to which the car companies will be able to install them easily. At the same time, roadside units (RSUs) will be given to NHI or state governments without auction because this is a matter directly related to saving people’s lives i.e. security.

Increase in demand for ADAS cars

The demand for cars with Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) is increasing in India. V2X is the next big step in this direction. This initiative of the government shows that India is now focusing not only on building roads but on building ‘smart’ roads. Although it will require a lot of investment, the security and ease of use in return is worth it.

What will be the benefits of V2X technology?

With the advent of this technology, not only will driving be easier, but it will also change the face of Indian roads. This will have many benefits-

  • Reduction in road accidents: India has the highest number of road accidents in the world. V2X technology will provide real-time alerts to the driver about dangers that are not visible to his eyes. Such as sharp turns, a vehicle coming at high speed from the other side or any other obstacle present on the road.
  • Protection in fog and bad weather: This technology can reduce collisions caused by fog in winter to zero. The car’s sensor will capture the location of the other car and give a signal to the driver to apply brakes.
  • Freedom from traffic jam: If there is a traffic jam or road construction work is going on, the roadside units will send alerts directly to your car’s navigation system. With this you will be able to change your route in time, which will save both time and fuel.
  • Ease of Fleet Management: Logistics companies will be able to closely monitor the location and health of their trucks and vehicles.
