Why is LED bulb so much better than old bulb?

Nowadays electricity bills are increasing very fast. Everyone wants to consume less electricity and have good lighting in the house. LED bulb is an easy and cheap solution to this problem. It is much better than old bulbs. First of all let us understand how old bulbs work.

The old bulbs (which we call incandescent bulbs) have a thin wire. When the power goes off, this wire becomes so hot that it starts glowing. That means light is made from heat. But the problem is that more than 90% of the electricity gets converted into heat only. Only 5-10% electricity provides lighting. Therefore, an old 60 watt bulb gives less light and the room also gets hot.

Now let’s talk about LED bulbs
The full name of LED is Light Emitting Diode. This is a small chip. When electricity passes through this chip the electrons move very fast. When they move, light is generated directly. Very, very little heat is generated in it. That means 80-90% of the electricity is converted into light. Only a little heat is generated. Therefore there is a big difference between the two:

type of bulbpower (watts)LumenHow hot is it?
old bulb60800too much
led bulb8-10800-900Very little

saw? LED gives the same or more light with 6-8 times less power.

There are other benefits:

  • Electricity bill is very low.
  • An LED bulb can easily last for 10-15 years (old bulbs do not last even 1 year).
  • The room remains cool due to less heat generation.
  • It does not contain any poisonous substance (like mercury).
  • Also good for the environment.

A small example:

Suppose you light a bulb for 5 hours every evening.

  1. Old 60 watt bulb – 100-120 units of electricity in a year
  2. 10 watt LED – only 18-20 units in a year

A huge savings, isn’t it?
Today, small 5 watt bulbs to large 20-30 watt LEDs are available in the market. Some are even color changing and mobile controlled. But the real secret is this – in LED, electricity directly turns into light, almost no heat is generated.

Therefore, you get more brightness with less electricity. If you are still using old bulbs, then install LEDs today. Money will be saved, electricity will be saved and the house will also be more illuminated.
