In summer, if your car’s AC is not providing cool air properly or there is a foul smell in the cabin, then the reason could be dirty AC vents. Dust, dirt and bacteria accumulate in them. The good thing is that they can be cleaned with some easy home methods. Know 5 effective ways to clean car AC vents.

Dust, dirt and bacteria accumulate in the AC vents of the car, which reduces the amount of cool air and the cabin environment also becomes smelly. This affects the cooling of the AC and can also affect health. However, it is possible to clean vents at home using simple methods.
This not only makes the air clean and fresh, but the AC system works well for a long time. Regular cleaning provides better cooling in summers and the interior of the car also remains clean. These tips are simple, cheap and effective, which anyone can easily adopt. Let’s take a look at 5 ways to keep car AC vents clean.
1. Start with a soft brush
First of all, park the car in a shady place and keep the AC off. Take a soft bristle brush or foam paint brush. Remove dust by moving the brush between the slats of the vents. This method is easy and reaches deep. Clean the brush by pressing it lightly, so that the plastic does not get damaged. This removes most of the surface dirt.
2. Use microfiber cloth and cleaner
Spray a solution of car interior cleaner or water-vinegar (equal amounts) on a microfiber cloth. Lightly wipe vent surface and slats. Do not wet it too much, so that water does not go inside. This method removes dirt and mild odor. After cleaning, wipe with dry cloth.
3. Clean the dust with a vacuum cleaner
Place the brush attachment on a car vacuum or shop vacuum and place it over the vents. Keeping the fan off, gently suck out dust from all the vents. It is very effective for deep cleaning. If there is no vacuum, you can also blow away the dust with compressed air from a can. This removes the dirt from inside the vents.
4. Clean depth with foam cleaner or spray
Take car AC duct foam cleaner (available in the market). Keeping the engine off, spray into the vents and leave for 5-10 minutes. Then turn on the AC fan on high and take it out. It removes odor and bacteria. You can also use Lysol or vinegar spray at home. Use with caution.
5. Check and replace cabin air filter
Be sure to check the cabin air filter for cleanliness. In most cars it is behind the glove box. Replace dirty filters, as this prevents dust from getting into the vents. Installing new filters keeps the air clean and the vents do not get dirty quickly. It is good to change it every 6-12 months.
