Kavish Devar, a 16-year-old student from Gurugram, has created the LibrePods app, through which Android and Linux users can take advantage of the special features of AirPods like ear detection, noise control and battery status.

New way to run AirPods without iPhone
Apple’s AirPods generally work well with Apple devices with all their features. But now an Indian student has tried to break this limit. Kavish Devar, a 16-year-old student from Gurugram, has created a free app called LibrePods, which allows Android and Linux users to use advanced features of AirPods.
With the help of LibrePods, now Android users can also take advantage of features like ear detection, head gesture, noise control and battery status, which were earlier limited only to iPhone or Apple devices. This app ‘tricks’ the AirPods into thinking they are connected to an Apple device, which unlocks many hidden features.
The most special thing about this app is Conversational Awareness, which automatically reduces the volume of music as soon as the user speaks. Apart from this, users can easily change the noise cancellation mode, customize the name of the headphones and also use the accessibility settings as per their need.
New features are available
LibrePods also have features like hearing aid mode and multi-device connectivity, which make it more useful. This app is especially beneficial for those who want to get the full experience of AirPods but do not use iPhone.
However, this app still has some limitations. Not all features work on every AirPods model. The best experience is available on AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. Also, running it on many Android devices may require rooting and exposed framework, which is not easy for every user.
GitHub has also appreciated this project, which has given Kavish Devar a new identity. Overall, LibrePods is a great innovation that can prove to be a big step towards making technology more open and accessible to everyone.
