Lucknow Super Giants IPL 2026 Preview: Squad, Strengths, Weaknesses & Key Players

Since joining the IPL in 2022, Lucknow Super Giants has quickly established itself as a contender, reaching the playoffs in its early seasons.

A dip last year stalled that momentum, but with the core intact, LSG now returns aiming to turn promise into a first title push.

BOWLING CONCERNS

10.28

Worst bowling economy rate in IPL last season

Lucknow Super Giants endured a difficult campaign with the ball in the previous edition. The side recorded the highest economy rate (10.28) among all teams and managed only 79 wickets in 14 matches, the third-lowest tally in the tournament.

Mystery spinner Digvesh Rathi emerged as the standout performer, finishing as the team’s leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets while maintaining the best economy rate among LSG bowlers at 8.25. Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan followed with 13 wickets each, though the attack struggled to consistently apply pressure.

NEW ADDITION

154.35

Josh Inglis’ strike rate in T20s since 2025

Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis has emerged as one of the quickest starters in T20 cricket in recent seasons. Since 2025, he has maintained a strike rate of 154.35, helping teams build momentum in the first half of the innings.

Last season with Punjab Kings, Inglis scored 264 runs at a strike rate of 165, often providing impetus at the top. His flexibility to bat anywhere from the opening slot to No. 6 adds depth to LSG’s batting lineup. Against spin, he has struck at 145.91 since 2025.

SPIN SMASHERS

159.33

Best strike rate against spin in IPL last season

While the bowling faltered, LSG’s batting unit excelled against spin. The side recorded the highest strike rate against spin (159.33) in the league, narrowly ahead of Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Nicholas Pooran was particularly destructive, scoring 224 runs in 10 innings against spin at a staggering strike rate of 263.52 and an average of 74.66. Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh also thrived against the tweakers, striking at 151.45 and 150.35 respectively.
