After retaining the bulk of its squad and making targeted additions at the mini-auction, the Titans begin their campaign against Punjab Kings on March 31.
Here are the three things in focus for GT ahead of next season.
TOP-HEAVY ENGINE
55.05
Average of top three batters in IPL 2025
Gujarat Titans leaned heavily on its top order last season, with Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler forming the most productive top three in the league. The trio averaged a combined 55.05, driving the team’s batting output.
Gill and Sudharsan forged seven 50-plus opening stands, including three century partnerships, while the top order contributed over 70 per cent of the team’s runs.
This dominance, however, came at a cost. The middle and lower order saw limited game time, leaving the side exposed when the top three failed in key matches.
FIELDING FRAILTIES
28
Most catches dropped in IPL 2025
Gujarat Titans’ campaign was undermined by poor fielding standards, with the side dropping 28 catches in 15 matches, the most by any team.
The issue proved costly in the Eliminator against Mumbai Indians. Rohit Sharma, dropped twice early, capitalised with 81 off 50 balls to set up a decisive win.
Surprisingly, Rashid Khan, typically one of the safest fielders, led the tally with 10 dropped catches, highlighting a broader lapse in execution.
NEW ALL-ROUND EDGE
1
Jason Holder: joint-leading wicket-taker at the death in T20Is since 2025
West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder arrives as a multi-phase option for Gujarat Titans. Since 2025, he has been among the most effective bowlers at the death in T20Is, with 19 wickets at an economy of 9.21.
At the recent T20 World Cup, Holder showcased his versatility, picking up 10 wickets across phases, including key contributions in the middle overs and at the death.
With his ability to contribute with both bat and ball, Holder could help address some of the balance issues within the side.
